Northern Secwepemc Cultural Centre
Overview
The Northern Secwepemc Cultural Centre is a new 4,400 sq. ft. facility for the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society in 108 Mile Ranch, BC, which represents five First Nations across the south and central Cariboo regions of BC. We delivered the full mechanical scope including split-system heat pumps, fan coils with electric reheat, force flow heaters on a hydronic loop fed by a high-efficiency electric boiler, and an instantaneous electric domestic hot water heater.
The Challenge
A cultural centre in a rural Interior BC community needs to be practical and efficient. Systems need to heat reliably through cold Cariboo winters, keep operating costs manageable for the community, and remain straightforward to service locally.
The Resolution
We installed split-system heat pumps for primary heating and cooling, with fan coils and electric reheat providing zone-level control. Force flow heaters connected to a hydronic loop fed by a high-efficiency electric boiler provide backup and supplemental heating for colder conditions. Domestic hot water is handled by an instantaneous electric heater. The building is fully electric with no GHG emissions. The project was completed in December 2023.
